Instructions
- Place the peeled and cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt to the water for flavor.
- Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Cook the sweet potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Once the sweet potatoes are tender, drain them well and return them to the pot.
- Add the olive oil, chopped thyme leaves, salt, and black pepper to the sweet potatoes.
- Using a potato masher, mash the sweet potatoes until they reach a smooth and creamy consistency. If you prefer a chunkier texture, mash to your liking.
- Incorporate the softened butter and warmed milk into the mashed sweet potatoes, continuing to mash until everything is well combined and creamy.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve the mashed sweet potatoes hot, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh thyme leaves for an elegant touch.
Tips
- For an added flavor twist, consider mixing in a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon for a warm, spiced undertone.
- You can also replace some of the milk with chicken or vegetable broth for a savory depth.
- If you're looking to make this dish a bit healthier, try using Greek yogurt instead of butter and milk.
