Servings: 6

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
3 cups
Baking powder
2 teaspoons
Salt
1 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons (plus extra for cooking)
Water
1 to 1.5 cups (as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to ensure even distribution of the dry ingredients.
  2. Gradually add water to the dry mixture while stirring with a wooden spoon or your hands. Continue adding water until a soft dough forms. The dough should be somewhat sticky but manageable.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Once kneaded, cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes to relax the gluten, which will make rolling easier.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a round ball.
  6. Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and brush it lightly with vegetable oil.
  7. Flatten each dough ball into a disc shape, approximately 1/4 inch thick, and place it on the heated pan.
  8. Cook the bread for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. You can press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  9. Remove the cooked bread from the pan and keep it warm under a kitchen towel. Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.
  10. Serve the Tibetan bread warm, and enjoy it with your favorite dips, curries, or simply with butter.
