Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round baking dish with olive oil or non-stick spray.
- Cook the Arborio rice according to package instructions until al dente, then set aside to cool.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, and season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Allow it to simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, beef mixture, diced mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and beaten eggs. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Transfer the rice mixture to the prepared baking dish, pressing it down firmly to create an even layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Once baked, let the Timballo rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
Tips
- For added flavor, consider incorporating other ingredients such as sautéed mushrooms or roasted vegetables into the rice mixture.
- You can also substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or a mix of vegetables for a vegetarian version.
- Serve with a side of fresh salad or garlic bread to complete the meal.
