Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet in a single layer. Brush each slice generously with olive oil to ensure they toast beautifully.
- Bake the baguette slices for 5-7 minutes, or until they are lightly golden and crisp. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
- While the baguette is toasting, prepare the tomato topping. In a medium bowl, mix together the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, salt, and black pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Once the baguette slices are toasted, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly.
- Top each toasted baguette slice with a generous spoonful of the tomato mixture.
- For an extra touch of flavor, drizzle with additional olive oil or balsamic glaze before serving.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of the warm crostini and the fresh topping.
Tips
- For a twist, add a sprinkle of crumbled feta or mozzarella cheese on top of the tomato mixture before serving.
- You can also grill the baguette slices for a smokier flavor.
- To keep the crostini crisp, do not assemble them too far in advance; serve them shortly after topping.
