Ingredients
- Mutton
- 2 lbs, cut into pieces
- Onions
- 2, chopped
- Garlic cloves
- 4, minced
- Tomatoes
- 5 large, diced
- Potatoes
- 4 medium, peeled and diced
- Chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon
- Ground coriander
- 2 teaspoons
- Salt
- to taste
- Black pepper
- to taste
- Water
- 2 cups
Instructions
- Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add the mutton pieces and brown on all sides, around 5-7 minutes.
- Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot. Cook until the onions become soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Next, add the diced tomatoes, potatoes, chilli powder, coriander, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine, ensuring the mutton and vegetables are well-coated with the spices.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer. Cook for about 2 hours, or until the mutton is tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Serve the Tomato Bredie hot with rice or a warm loaf of bread for a complete, satisfying meal.
Tips
- For a more robust flavor, you can substitute half of the water with beef or vegetable broth.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of chilli powder to your preference. If you like it spicy, add more; if you want it milder, add less.
- Tomato Bredie is a dish that tastes even better the next day, so it's perfect for meal prep or leftovers!
