Ingredients

Original recipe serves 4

Pizza dough
1 lb, store-bought or homemade
Tomato sauce
1 cup, preferably homemade or quality store-bought
Canned tuna
1 can (6 oz), drained
Red onion
1 medium, thinly sliced
Mozzarella cheese
2 cups, shredded
Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste
Fresh basil
a handful, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness, making sure it's slightly larger than the pizza stone or baking sheet you will use.
  3. Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone, ensuring it maintains its shape.
  4. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
  5. Evenly distribute the drained tuna over the sauce. Follow with the sliced red onion and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Drizzle olive oil over the toppings and season generously with salt and black pepper to enhance the flavors.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with freshly chopped basil before slicing.
  9. Slice and serve hot, enjoying the rich flavors of this Italian classic.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra depth of flavor, consider caramelizing the red onions in olive oil before adding them to the pizza.
  • 💡 Add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • 💡 If you prefer a homemade tomato sauce, blend together fresh tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, basil, and a pinch of salt, and simmer until thickened.
