Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of the granulated sugar. Set aside to allow the apples to marinate in the lemon juice.
- In another large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, remaining sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well to ensure even distribution of the dry ingredients.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Arrange half of the marinated apple slices evenly over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and apple slices, layering them on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then carefully transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Tips
- For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of apple cider to the batter.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a decadent treat.
