Ultimate Tuna Melt

Indulge in the comforting delight of the Ultimate Tuna Melt, where flaky tuna melds beautifully with gooey cheddar and crispy, buttery bread. This classic sandwich has been a favorite since the 1960s, combining simple ingredients to create a dish that's both satisfying and nostalgic. Perfect for a quick lunch or a hearty snack, the combination of fresh vegetables and zesty Dijon mustard adds a refreshing twist to this all-time favorite!

Serves 2

Ingredients

Canned tuna
2 (5 oz) cans, drained
Mayonnaise
1/4 cup
Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon
Red onion
1/4 cup, finely chopped
Celery
1/4 cup, finely chopped
Fresh parsley
2 tablespoons, chopped
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon
Cheddar cheese
4 slices
Bread slices
4 slices (your choice of bread)
Butter
2 tablespoons, softened

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped red onion, celery, parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  2. Spread the tuna mixture evenly onto two slices of your chosen bread.
  3. Place two slices of cheddar cheese on top of the tuna mixture on each slice of bread.
  4. Top each with the remaining slices of bread to form sandwiches.
  5. Spread softened butter on the outer sides of each sandwich to achieve a golden, crispy crust.
  6. Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet.
  7. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing down gently with a spatula until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve hot.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of sriracha to the tuna mixture.
  • 💡 Feel free to substitute cheddar with your favorite cheese, like Gruyère or mozzarella.
  • 💡 Add sliced tomatoes or avocados for extra flavor and nutrition.
