Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Pasta (8 ounces (spaghetti or penne))
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Onion (1 medium, chopped)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • Crushed tomatoes (1 can (14 ounces))
  • Dried oregano (1 teaspoon)
  • Salt (1/2 teaspoon (to taste))
  • Black pepper (1/4 teaspoon (to taste))
  • Canned tuna (1 can (5 ounces, drained and flaked))
  • Fresh basil (1/4 cup, chopped (divided))
  • Parmesan cheese (1/4 cup, grated (for serving))

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup of the pasta water, and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Gently fold in the drained tuna and half of the chopped fresh basil into the sauce, stirring to combine.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
  7. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  8. Remove from heat, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and the remaining fresh basil.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious tuna pasta!
