Ingredients

Active dry yeast
1 tablespoon
Warm water
1 cup
All-purpose flour
3 cups
Salt
1 teaspoon
Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Ground beef
1 pound
Onion
1, finely chopped
Tomato
1, diced
Red bell pepper
1, diced
Black olives
1/2 cup, sliced
Feta cheese
1/2 cup, crumbled
Fresh parsley
1/4 cup, chopped
Egg
1, beaten (for egg wash)
Black pepper
to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, tomato, and red bell pepper until the beef is browned and the vegetables are softened. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Once the dough has risen, divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into an oval shape on a floured surface.
  8. Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the top of each dough oval.
  10. Sprinkle the sliced black olives, crumbled feta cheese, and chopped parsley over the toppings.
  11. Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
  13. Serve hot, garnished with extra parsley if desired, and enjoy!

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with sautéed mushrooms and spinach.
  • 💡 Experiment with different toppings like minced lamb, spicy sausage, or a variety of vegetables such as zucchini or eggplant.
  • 💡 Serve with a side of yogurt or a simple salad for a refreshing contrast.
