Servings: 12
Ingredients
- Egg wash
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water
- Filling
- 2 cups of your choice (e.g. ground meat, cabbage, or mashed potatoes)
- Eggs
- 2
- Butter
- 1/4 cup, melted
- Warm milk
- 1 cup
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar
- 1 tablespoon
- Active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon
- All-purpose flour
- 3 cups
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
- In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs.
- Mix the components together until a dough forms. Transfer this dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Next, place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small circle.
- Place a spoonful of your chosen filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal, forming the bun shape.
- Place these filled buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- While the buns are rising, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the risen buns with the egg wash to give them a golden finish.
- Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes or until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
- Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best taste.
