Vanilla Beignets
These delightful French-style beignets are light, fluffy, and coated in powdered sugar, perfect for a sweet treat or dessert. Originating from New Orleans, they are a beloved part of American cuisine, often enjoyed with coffee or hot chocolate.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 2 cups
- Sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Baking powder
- 2 teaspoons
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Milk
- 3/4 cup
- Egg
- 1, large
- Vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil
- for frying
- Powdered sugar
- for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, drop the dough into the hot oil, cooking a few at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Remove the beignets with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
