Original recipe serves 4

All-purpose flour
2 cups, plus extra for dusting
Active dry yeast
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons)
Warm water
3/4 cup (110°f)
Olive oil
2 tablespoons, plus more for drizzling
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
to taste
Tomato sauce
1 cup
Vegan cheese
1 cup, shredded
Fresh basil
1/4 cup, chopped, plus extra for garnish
Mushrooms
1 cup, sliced
Red onion
1/2, thinly sliced
Bell peppers
1 cup, diced (any color)
Black olives
1/2 cup, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it activate for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  7. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  8. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
  9. Sprinkle the vegan cheese generously over the sauce.
  10. Add the bell peppers, red onion, mushrooms, and black olives as desired.
  11. Drizzle the olive oil over the toppings and season with salt and pepper.
