Experience the rich, sweet, and full-bodied flavor of Vitamalz, a beloved non-alcoholic malt beer originating from Germany. Known for its nutritional benefits and refreshing taste, this homemade version captures the essence of traditional Malzbier. Perfect for family gatherings or a cozy night in, Vitamalz is a delightful treat that everyone can enjoy. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a fizzy, flavorful beverage that pays homage to a classic German favorite.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

Malt extract
1 cup
Brown sugar
1/2 cup
Carbonation drops
4 drops (1 per bottle)
Water
4 cups (1 cup for boiling and 3 cups for cooling)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine 1 cup of water, malt extract, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Remove the pot from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, which will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
  3. Once cooled, add the remaining 3 cups of water to the pot and stir well to combine.
  4. Carefully pour the mixture into four clean bottles, ensuring each bottle gets one carbonation drop.
  5. Seal the bottles tightly and let them sit at room temperature for about one week to allow carbonation to develop.
  6. After a week, check the carbonation by gently opening one bottle. If it is fizzy, your homemade Vitamalz is ready to be enjoyed. If not, allow the bottles to carbonate for a few more days, checking periodically.
  7. Once carbonated, store the Vitamalz in the refrigerator and serve chilled. Enjoy this refreshing drink on its own or with light snacks, such as pretzels or cheese.
