Servings: 4

Ingredients

Macaroni
8 ounces
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons
All-purpose flour
2 tablespoons
Milk
2 cups
Sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups, shredded
Wasabi paste
1-2 tablespoons (adjust to taste)
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon
Bread crumbs
1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the flour until smooth, creating a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture comes to a boil. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes or until thickened.
  5. Reduce the heat to low, then stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and wasabi paste. Mix until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then gently fold in the cooked macaroni, ensuring it is well coated with the cheese sauce.
  7. Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased 2-quart baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the bread crumbs over the top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
