Infused with the earthy notes of turmeric and enriched with savory chicken broth, this rice is not just a side dish but a delightful accompaniment that enhances any meal. Traditionally enjoyed in many cultures, yellow rice has roots in Spanish, Indian, and Middle Eastern cuisines, making it a versatile staple that pairs beautifully with grilled meats, stews, or even roasted vegetables.
Ingredients
- Long grain white rice
- 1 cup
- Chicken broth
- 2 cups
- Water
- 1 cup
- Turmeric
- 1 teaspoon
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil
- 1 tablespoon (optional, for added richness)
- Fresh parsley or cilantro
- chopped, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the long grain white rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear, which helps remove excess starch and prevents sticking.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat (if using). Add the rinsed rice and sauté for 1-2 minutes until lightly toasted.
- Pour in the chicken broth and water, then add turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine all the ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes to allow the rice to steam.
- Fluff the rice with a fork, and garnish with chopped fresh parsley or cilantro before serving.
Tips
- For a vegetarian version, substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth.
- Feel free to add additional spices such as cumin or saffron for extra flavor.
- This rice can also be enhanced with peas, carrots, or bell peppers for added color and nutrition.
