Servings: 10
Ingredients
- Rice flour
- 2 cups
- Water
- 3/4 cup (adjust as needed)
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Ghee (clarified butter)
- 2 tablespoons (for filling) + extra for greasing
- Sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup, toasted
- Molasses
- 1/2 cup
- Cardamom powder
- 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, water, and salt. Knead the mixture well until it forms a smooth and pliable dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the molasses, toasted sesame seeds, ghee, and cardamom powder to create a rich filling. Ensure all ingredients are well combined.
- Divide the dough into small portions, about the size of a golf ball. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
- Flatten each ball into a small cup-like shape using your fingers or a rolling pin. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
- Fill each dough cup with a generous amount of the molasses and sesame seed filling, taking care not to overfill.
- Gently pinch the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside, ensuring it is completely enclosed.
- Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil and placing the yomari on a greased steaming tray or bamboo basket. Ensure they are not touching each other.
- Steam the yomari for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through and has a translucent appearance.
- Remove the yomari from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best experience!
- For an added touch, you can drizzle a bit of extra ghee over the yomari before serving.
