Servings: 10

Ingredients

Rice flour
2 cups
Water
3/4 cup (adjust as needed)
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Ghee (clarified butter)
2 tablespoons (for filling) + extra for greasing
Sesame seeds
1/2 cup, toasted
Molasses
1/2 cup
Cardamom powder
1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, water, and salt. Knead the mixture well until it forms a smooth and pliable dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the molasses, toasted sesame seeds, ghee, and cardamom powder to create a rich filling. Ensure all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions, about the size of a golf ball. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
  4. Flatten each ball into a small cup-like shape using your fingers or a rolling pin. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  5. Fill each dough cup with a generous amount of the molasses and sesame seed filling, taking care not to overfill.
  6. Gently pinch the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside, ensuring it is completely enclosed.
  7. Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil and placing the yomari on a greased steaming tray or bamboo basket. Ensure they are not touching each other.
  8. Steam the yomari for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through and has a translucent appearance.
  9. Remove the yomari from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best experience!
  10. For an added touch, you can drizzle a bit of extra ghee over the yomari before serving.
