Servings: 2
Ingredients
- Udon noodles
- 200g
- Grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon
- Wasabi
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Nori seaweed, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon
- Green onions, thinly sliced
- 2
- Soy sauce
- 1/3 cup
- Mirin
- 1/3 cup
- Dashi stock
- 1/2 cup
Instructions
- Start by preparing the udon noodles as per the package instructions. Once cooked, drain them and immediately rinse under cold water until completely cooled. This process stops the cooking and gives the noodles their distinctive chewy texture.
- While the noodles are cooking, begin preparing the dipping sauce. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, and dashi stock. Stir until well mixed.
- Divide the cooled udon noodles into individual serving plates or traditional bamboo trays (zaru) if available.
- Serve the dipping sauce in a separate dish. Add the garnishes - green onions, nori seaweed, wasabi, and grated ginger on top of the sauce or on the side, according to your preference.
- To enjoy Zaru Udon, grasp a small bundle of noodles with chopsticks, dip them into the sauce, and savor! Remember, in Japanese dining, it's completely acceptable to slurp your noodles.
