Zeppole
Indulge in the sweet delight of Zeppole, a classic Italian pastry that takes you on a gastronomic journey to Italy with each bite. Adored for its doughnut-like texture and creamy custard filling, Zeppole is traditionally relished on Saint Joseph's Day. This sugary treat, dusted with powdered sugar, is a perfect companion to your morning coffee or a charming dessert to end your meal on a sweet note.
Servings: 15-20
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 2 cups
- Granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder
- 2 teaspoons
- Eggs
- 2
- Milk
- 1 cup
- Vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon
- Butter
- 2 tablespoons, melted
- Vegetable oil
- for frying
- Powdered sugar
- for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Stir well to combine.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Make sure not to overmix as it can make the zeppoles tough.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F. Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the zeppoles.
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil, frying until they are golden brown. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the zeppoles from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- While they're still warm, dust the zeppoles generously with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy them fresh for the best experience.
