Ingredients
- Fresh cilantro
- a handful, chopped for garnish
- Vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons
- Salt
- to taste
- Red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder
- 2 teaspoons
- Turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala
- 1 tablespoon
- Cashew nuts
- 1/2 cup, soaked in water and ground into a paste
- Tomato
- 1 large, finely chopped
- Yogurt
- 1 cup, beaten
- Ginger
- 1 inch piece, grated
- Garlic
- 3 cloves, minced
- Onion
- 1 large, finely chopped
- Beef
- 500g, cut into cubes
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns a golden brown color.
- Add in the minced garlic and grated ginger, continue to sauté for another minute until fragrant.
- Drain the soaked cashew nuts and blend them with a little water in a blender until a smooth paste forms.
- Add the beef cubes to the pan, and brown them on all sides.
- Stir in the finely chopped tomato, cashew paste, and beaten yogurt.
- Sprinkle in all the spices - garam masala, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to ensure the beef is well-coated with the spices and the ingredients are well combined.
- Cover the pan and let the beef simmer in the spiced yogurt sauce for about 45 minutes, or until it is tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Garnish with a handful of chopped fresh cilantro and serve hot. This Beef Korma pairs wonderfully with steamed basmati rice or fresh naan bread.
Tips
- For a vegan alternative, replace the beef with tofu or chickpeas. You can also adjust the heat level by adding more or less red chili powder. Additionally, remember that the longer the dish simmers, the more flavorful it will be.
