Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it's foamy.
- Add the flour, 1/4 cup of olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until it's smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it's doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet, pressing it out to fit the shape of the pan.
- In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, chopped rosemary, and chopped thyme. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the dough, then gently press it into the dough with your fingers.
- Drizzle the top of the dough with a little more olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt to taste.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the focaccia is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Let it cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.
Tips
- For added flavor, consider adding olives or sun-dried tomatoes to the dough before baking.
- Serve with a side of balsamic vinegar and olive oil for dipping.
- Experiment with different herbs like oregano or basil to create your unique version.
