
Gratin de Riz
Gratin de Riz is a delicious French rice casserole dish made with creamy cheese sauce and topped with a crispy breadcrumb crust.
Ingredients
- Fresh parsley (2 tablespoons, chopped)
- Breadcrumbs (1/2 cup)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Parmesan cheese (1/2 cup, grated)
- Gruyere cheese (1 cup, grated)
- Milk (2 cups)
- All (purpose flour - 1/4 cup)
- Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
- Onion (1 medium, finely chopped)
- Butter (4 tablespoons)
- Rice (2 cups)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onion and garlic mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the grated Gruyere cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked rice to the cheese sauce and mix well to combine.
- Transfer the rice mixture to a greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the remaining grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and chopped parsley. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the rice.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve the Gratin de Riz hot as a main course or as a side dish with your favorite protein.
