Servings: 6

Ingredients

Warm water
1 cup
Active dry yeast
1 teaspoon
Sugar
1 teaspoon
All-purpose flour
3 cups, plus extra for dusting
Salt
1 teaspoon
Plain yogurt
1/2 cup
Garlic
4 cloves, minced
Butter
4 tablespoons, melted
Fresh cilantro
1/4 cup, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy, indicating that the yeast is activated.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, yogurt, and minced garlic. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough to release the air. Divide it into 6 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball. Flatten each ball and roll it out into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2 minutes on one side, until bubbles form. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes on the other side, or until golden brown and puffed.
  7. Brush each cooked naan with melted butter and sprinkle with chopped cilantro for an added burst of flavor.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy with your favorite Indian dishes!
