Ingredients

All-purpose flour
2 cups
Baking powder
1 tablespoon
Sugar
2 tablespoons
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Milk
1 cup
Egg
1
Unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons, plus extra for greasing and serving
Powdered sugar
for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg. Add in the milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter, and mix well.
  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine.
  4. Preheat your poffertjes pan or a small non-stick skillet over medium heat. Grease the pan with some extra butter.
  5. Fill each indentation of the pan halfway with batter.
  6. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the edges start to set and bubbles appear on the surface.
  7. Using a skewer or a small fork, carefully flip each poffertje and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Transfer the cooked poffertjes to a serving plate and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  9. Serve the poffertjes warm, dusted generously with powdered sugar and topped with a small pat of butter. Enjoy!
