Poffertjes
Experience the joy of Dutch cuisine with these delightful Poffertjes! These mini pancakes are a staple in the Netherlands, usually enjoyed at fairs and markets. Light, fluffy, and served with a dusting of powdered sugar and a pat of butter, they make for a perfect sweet treat at any time of the day. The batter's rich mixture of ingredients gives these pancakes a unique, slightly sweet flavor that's utterly irresistible.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 2 cups
- Baking powder
- 1 tablespoon
- Sugar
- 2 tablespoons
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Milk
- 1 cup
- Egg
- 1
- Unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons, plus extra for greasing and serving
- Powdered sugar
- for dusting
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the egg. Add in the milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter, and mix well.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine.
- Preheat your poffertjes pan or a small non-stick skillet over medium heat. Grease the pan with some extra butter.
- Fill each indentation of the pan halfway with batter.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the edges start to set and bubbles appear on the surface.
- Using a skewer or a small fork, carefully flip each poffertje and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer the cooked poffertjes to a serving plate and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
- Serve the poffertjes warm, dusted generously with powdered sugar and topped with a small pat of butter. Enjoy!
Tips
- If you don't have a poffertjes pan, you can also use a mini muffin tin or a small non-stick skillet. Just adjust cooking time accordingly.
- For a festive touch, consider serving poffertjes with a drizzle of chocolate or strawberry sauce, or top them with fresh fruits.
