Original recipe serves 4

Sugarcane
1 pound, peeled and cut into 1-2 inch pieces
Water
4 cups
Lemon
1, juiced
Fresh ginger
1 inch, peeled and sliced
Ice cubes
as needed
Fresh mint leaves
for garnish (optional)
Lemon slices
for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by peeling the hard outer layer of the sugarcane stalks using a knife. Cut the sugarcane into small pieces, approximately 1-2 inches long.
  2. In a blender, combine the sugarcane pieces, water, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and sliced ginger. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and the sugarcane is thoroughly crushed.
  3. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher, pressing down firmly to extract as much juice as possible.
  4. Chill the juice in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or serve immediately over ice for a refreshing drink.
  5. For an added twist, garnish with fresh mint leaves or a slice of lemon before serving.
