
Tamarind Rice

Ingredients
- Asafoetida (a pinch)
- Peanuts (2 tablespoons)
- Curry leaves (few)
- Dry red chilies (2)
- Urad dal (1 teaspoon)
- Chana dal (1 teaspoon)
- Mustard seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
- Oil (2 tablespoons)
- Salt (to taste)
- Turmeric powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Tamarind (1 small ball)
- Rice (1 cup)
Instructions
- Cook the rice and spread it on a plate to cool.
- Soak the tamarind in water and extract its juice.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, dry red chilies, curry leaves, peanuts, and asafoetida.
- When the mustard seeds start to splutter, add the tamarind extract, turmeric powder, and salt.
- Let it boil until the raw smell of the tamarind goes away.
- Add the cooked rice and mix well.
- Serve the tamarind rice hot with a side of your choice.
