Tamarind Rice

Tamarind Rice is a popular South Indian dish made with tangy tamarind and rice. It's a flavorful and delicious dish that can be served as a main course or side dish.

Ingredients

  • Asafoetida (a pinch)
  • Peanuts (2 tablespoons)
  • Curry leaves (few)
  • Dry red chilies (2)
  • Urad dal (1 teaspoon)
  • Chana dal (1 teaspoon)
  • Mustard seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Turmeric powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Tamarind (1 small ball)
  • Rice (1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice and spread it on a plate to cool.
  2. Soak the tamarind in water and extract its juice.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, dry red chilies, curry leaves, peanuts, and asafoetida.
  4. When the mustard seeds start to splutter, add the tamarind extract, turmeric powder, and salt.
  5. Let it boil until the raw smell of the tamarind goes away.
  6. Add the cooked rice and mix well.
  7. Serve the tamarind rice hot with a side of your choice.
