Indulge in the delightful crunch of homemade Boardwalk Churros, a beloved carnival treat that brings joy to every bite. These golden-brown pastries are crispy on the outside and irresistibly soft on the inside, dusted with a generous coating of cinnamon sugar and perfect for dipping in rich chocolate sauce. Originating from Spain and popularized in Latin America, churros have become a staple at fairs and amusement parks, making them a nostalgic favorite for many. Now, you can recreate this magical experience right in your own kitchen!

Serves 10

Ingredients

Water
1 cup
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons
White sugar
1 tablespoon
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
All-purpose flour
1 cup
Eggs
2 large
Vegetable oil
for frying
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup (for coating)
Ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons (for coating)
Chocolate sauce
1 cup (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, butter, white sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  2. Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a smooth ball. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  3. Once cooled, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
  6. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the churros from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. In a shallow bowl, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
  9. Serve warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra flavor twist, try adding a tablespoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
  • 💡 If you like a softer churro, reduce the frying time slightly.
  • 💡 Experiment with different dipping sauces like caramel or dulce de leche for added variety.
