Ingredients

  • Water (1 cup)
  • Unsalted butter (2 tablespoons)
  • White sugar (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • All-purpose flour (1 cup)
  • Eggs (2 large)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Granulated sugar (1/2 cup (for coating))
  • Ground cinnamon (2 teaspoons (for coating))
  • Chocolate sauce (1 cup (for dipping))

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, butter, white sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  2. Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a smooth ball. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  3. Once cooled, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
  6. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the churros from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. In a shallow bowl, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
  9. Serve warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.
