Chicken Parmesan Sandwich

Experience the heartiness of Italy right at your dinner table with this delectable Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. Golden, crunchy breaded chicken breast topped with tangy marinara sauce and a generous layer of melted mozzarella cheese, nestled between two toasted buns. The sandwich is perfected with a garnish of fresh basil, providing a touch of freshness that brings a satisfying balance to the palate.

Ingredients

Fresh basil leaves
6-8
Buns
4, halved and toasted
Mozzarella cheese
1 cup, shredded
Marinara sauce
1 cup
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Salt
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon
Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup, grated
Breadcrumbs
1 cup
Egg
1, beaten
Chicken breasts
4, boneless and skinless

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Using a meat mallet, pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. In one shallow dish, whisk the egg. In a separate dish, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Dip each chicken breast into the beaten egg, letting the excess drip off. Then, dredge in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the breaded chicken breasts for about 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Transfer the cooked chicken breasts to a baking sheet. Top each with a quarter of the marinara sauce and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Place each chicken on a toasted bun, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and cover with the bun top.
  9. Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy the taste of Italy in a sandwich!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce. You can also use whole grain buns for a healthier option.
