Ingredients

Original recipe serves 1

Coca leaves
1-2 teaspoons, dried or fresh
Hot water
1 cup (about 240 ml)
Sugar or honey
to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by boiling water in a kettle or pot until it reaches a rolling boil.
  2. Place the coca leaves in a tea strainer or tea ball to prevent them from floating freely in the tea.
  3. Once the water is boiling, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly for about 30 seconds to a minute. This helps to avoid scalding the leaves, which can affect the flavor.
  4. Pour the hot water over the coca leaves in the strainer or tea ball, ensuring that the leaves are fully submerged.
  5. Let the tea steep for about 5 minutes. For a stronger flavor, you can steep it for up to 10 minutes.
  6. Remove the tea strainer or tea ball from the cup.
  7. Add sugar or honey to taste, stirring well to dissolve. Adjust the sweetness according to your preference.
  8. Enjoy your coca tea warm, either plain or with a slice of lemon for added zest.

Tips

  • 💡 For a unique twist, consider adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or a few fresh mint leaves during steeping for extra flavor.
  • 💡 Coca tea can also be enjoyed iced; simply let the tea cool and serve over ice with a slice of lime.
