Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine the chopped figs, orange zest, orange juice, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves and the mixture does not stick.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jam thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the jam to cool for a few minutes.
- Transfer the warm jam to sterilized jars, leaving a little space at the top, and seal tightly.
- Let the jam cool completely at room temperature before storing it in the refrigerator.
- Enjoy your fig and orange jam spread on warm toast, as a filling in pastries, or as a sweet addition to yogurt and desserts!
Tips
- For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of ground ginger or nutmeg to the mixture.
- This jam pairs beautifully with goat cheese or cream cheese for a lovely appetizer.
- If you prefer a smoother jam, you can blend the mixture with an immersion blender after it has cooled slightly.
