Ingredients
- Cilantro
- 1 bunch, finely chopped
- Salsa
- 1 cup
- Sour Cream
- 1/2 cup
- Shredded Cheese
- 1 cup
- Black Pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Chili Powder
- 1 tablespoon
- Cumin
- 1 teaspoon
- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Onion
- 1, finely chopped
- Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 cup for frying
- Flour Tortillas
- 12 (6-inch size)
- Cooked Chicken
- 2 cups, shredded
Instructions
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion becomes translucent, this should take about 5 minutes.
- To the skillet, add the shredded chicken, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together and let it cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the chicken to absorb the flavors.
- Warm the flour tortillas in the microwave for about 10 seconds until they become pliable. This will prevent them from breaking as you roll them.
- Place a spoonful of the flavorful chicken mixture onto each tortilla. Roll them tightly into a flute shape, ensuring the filling is secure inside.
- Add more oil to the skillet if needed, then place the rolled flautas seam-side down. Cook each side until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the crispy flautas from the skillet and drain excess oil on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve your authentic Mexican Flautas topped with a sprinkle of shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, some zesty salsa, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro. Enjoy!
Tips
- To make your flautas extra crispy, ensure the oil is hot before adding the flautas.
- For a healthier version, bake the flautas in an oven preheated to 400°F (200°C) for about 15 minutes until crispy.
- You can also use beef or pork instead of chicken for a variation.
