Ingredients

Original recipe serves 2

Chicken breasts
2 large, boneless and skinless
Buttermilk
1 cup
All-purpose flour
1 cup
Paprika
1 teaspoon
Garlic powder
1 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
for frying
Buns
2, toasted
Mayonnaise
2 tablespoons
Lettuce
2 leaves, crisp and fresh
Tomato
1, sliced
Pickles
4 slices

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the chicken breasts and pour the buttermilk over them. Ensure the chicken is fully submerged. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (approximately 350°F / 175°C).
  4. Remove the marinated chicken breasts from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess flour.
  5. Carefully place the coated chicken breasts into the hot oil. Fry for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 74°C).
  6. Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. While the chicken is resting, toast the buns on a grill or in a toaster until golden.
  8. Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Layer with lettuce, followed by tomato slices, then the crispy fried chicken breast, and finish with pickles.
  9. Top with the other half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your homemade crispy fried chicken sandwich!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
  • 💡 Try adding your favorite hot sauce to the mayonnaise for an extra layer of flavor.
  • 💡 Serve with a side of coleslaw or sweet potato fries for a complete meal.
