Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and blanch for about 5 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the shredded turkey and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing it to heat through.
- In a separate bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk. Stir until smooth and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a greased 9x13 inch casserole dish, layer half of the green beans, followed by the turkey mixture, and then half of the soup mixture. Repeat the layers with the remaining green beans, turkey, and soup mixture.
- Finish by sprinkling the top with French fried onions for a crunchy topping.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the onions are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy hot!
Tips
- Feel free to substitute the turkey with shredded chicken or even a vegetarian protein for a meatless option.
- For added flavor, consider mixing in some grated cheddar cheese between the layers.
- If you prefer a homemade cream of mushroom soup, you can make one using sautéed mushrooms, cream, and broth.
