Instructions
- Preheat the grill or stovetop griddle to medium-high heat.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
- Place the patties on the grill or griddle and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness (medium-rare is typically about 130-135°F).
- While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Top with a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, a few rings of red onion, and a slice of pickle.
- Spread ketchup and mustard generously on the top half of each bun.
- Cover the burgers with the top bun and serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Tips
- For a smoky flavor, consider adding a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the patty during the last minute of cooking.
- Experiment with different toppings like avocado, jalapeños, or grilled mushrooms for a unique twist.
- If you prefer a leaner burger, opt for ground turkey or chicken, but adjust the cooking time as necessary.
