Servings: 6-8
Ingredients
- Mock tender roast (3-4 pounds)
- Salt (1 teaspoon)
- Black pepper (1 teaspoon)
- Garlic powder (1 teaspoon)
- Onion powder (1 teaspoon)
- Paprika (1 tablespoon)
- Vegetable oil (2 tablespoons)
- Beef broth (2 cups)
- Worcestershire sauce (2 tablespoons)
- Water (1/2 cup)
- All-purpose flour (1/4 cup)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- Rub the spice mixture all over the mock tender roast, ensuring it’s well-coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Sear the roast on all sides until it’s nicely browned, approximately 4-5 minutes per side.
- Once browned, remove the roast from the pot and set it aside on a plate.
- In the same pot, pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to deglaze the pot and scrape up any browned bits.
- Return the roast to the pot, covering it with the flavorful liquid, and cover the pot with a lid.
- Transfer the pot to the preheated oven and roast for 2.5-3 hours, or until the roast is tender and shreds easily with a fork.
- After roasting, remove the pot from the oven, and let the roast rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
- While the roast is resting, prepare the gravy. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and water to form a smooth slurry.
- Pour the slurry into the cooking liquid in the pot and whisk continuously until the gravy thickens.
- Slice the roast and serve it generously drizzled with the rich gravy.
