Neobiani (Korean Grilled Marinated Beef)
Neobiani is a beloved Korean dish that features tender slices of marinated beef, grilled to juicy perfection. The rich and savory flavors from the soy sauce blend beautifully with the sweetness of sugar and the aromatic notes of ginger and garlic, creating a mouthwatering experience. Traditionally enjoyed as a part of Korean barbecue, Neobiani embodies the spirit of communal dining and the vibrant flavors of Korean cuisine. Serve it alongside steamed rice and fresh vegetables for a delightful meal that will transport you straight to the streets of Seoul.
Ingredients
- Beef sirloin
- 1 pound, thinly sliced against the grain
- Soy sauce
- 1/4 cup
- Sugar
- 2 tablespoons
- Garlic
- 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger
- 1 tablespoon, grated
- Sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Green onions
- 2, chopped
- Vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon (for cooking)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, chopped green onions, and black pepper until the sugar is dissolved and all ingredients are well combined.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each slice is well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator, or overnight for deeper flavor.
- When ready to cook, heat the vegetable oil in a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully add the marinated beef slices in a single layer to the hot pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the beef is nicely browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
- Once cooked, remove the beef from the pan and let it rest for a few minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
- Serve the Neobiani hot with a side of steamed rice and your choice of banchan (Korean side dishes) such as kimchi or pickled vegetables. Enjoy!
Tips
- For added depth of flavor, consider adding a splash of mirin or rice wine to the marinade.
- If you prefer a spicy kick, mix in some gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) or a dash of gochujang (Korean chili paste) into the marinade.
- You can grill the beef on an outdoor grill for a smoky flavor, just be sure to watch the cooking time closely.
