Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Marinara sauce (1 cup, for dipping)
  • Salt (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Pepper (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Garlic powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Italian seasoning (1 teaspoon)
  • Parmesan cheese (1/4 cup, grated)
  • Mozzarella cheese (1 cup, shredded)
  • Pepperoni (1 1/2 cups, sliced)
  • Onion (1 large, thinly sliced)
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Pizza dough (1 pound, store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until caramelized, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Once caramelized, remove from heat and set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, approximately 12x15 inches.
  4. Evenly spread the caramelized onions over the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  5. Layer the sliced pepperoni over the onions, followed by the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  6. Sprinkle the garlic powder and Italian seasoning evenly over the cheese and pepperoni.
  7. Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll the dough into a log, sealing the edges to prevent filling from leaking out.
  8. Place the stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Make a few slits on top of the stromboli to allow steam to escape during baking.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
