Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika until well combined.
- Add the beaten egg and water to the dry ingredients. Stir until a smooth batter forms, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium-high heat, ensuring the oil is hot enough for frying (around 350°F or 175°C).
- Dip each prawn into the batter, making sure it is fully coated. Carefully place the coated prawn into the hot oil.
- Fry the prawn fritters in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain the oil temperature.
- Once cooked, remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the prawn fritters hot with lime wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips
- For extra crunch, consider adding finely chopped vegetables like bell peppers or green onions to the batter.
- If you prefer a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
