Sahel Sorghum Latte
The Sahel Sorghum Latte is a delightful fusion of hearty grains and warming spices, hailing from the Sahel region in Africa where sorghum is a staple. This nourishing beverage combines the earthy, slightly sweet flavor of sorghum flour with the creaminess of milk, the natural sweetness of honey, and a comforting blend of spices. The result is a delicious and nutritious treat that's perfect for sipping on a cozy afternoon or enjoying as a soothing evening drink.
Ingredients
- Vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon
- Honey
- 2 tablespoons
- Milk
- 2 cups
- Sorghum flour
- 1/4 cup
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together the sorghum flour and milk until there are no lumps and the mixture is well combined.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Cook until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle simmer.
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the honey, ground cinnamon, ground cardamom, ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
- Pour the hot latte into mugs. Serve immediately and enjoy the warmth and comfort of this traditional African beverage.
Tips
- For a vegan alternative, substitute the milk with almond milk or oat milk, and replace the honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
- For an extra touch of indulgence, top the latte with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
