Lemon
1, cut into slices for garnish
Bacon
4 strips, cooked and crumbled
Green onions
4, chopped
Cajun seasoning
1 tablespoon
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Butter
2 tablespoons
Heavy cream
1/2 cup
Chicken broth
3 cups
Grits
1 cup
Shrimp
1 pound, peeled and deveined

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil over high heat.
  2. Slowly whisk in the grits, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are creamy and tender.
  3. While the grits are cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet and sprinkle with the Cajun seasoning, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and chopped green onions. Simmer for an additional 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. To serve, divide the cooked grits among four plates. Top each plate with the shrimp and cream sauce.
  7. Garnish with the crispy crumbled bacon and fresh lemon slices. Serve hot and enjoy your taste trip to the South!

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra kick, add a dash of hot sauce to the shrimp while they're cooking.
  • 💡 You can substitute the chicken broth with vegetable broth for a vegetarian version of the grits.
  • 💡 If you don't have Cajun seasoning, you can make your own by mixing together salt, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, onion powder, cayenne pepper, oregano, thyme, and red pepper flakes.
