Spaghetti Bolognese

A classic Italian dish made with ground beef, tomatoes, and herbs, served over spaghetti.

Ingredients

  • Fresh basil (for garnish)
  • Parmesan cheese (1/4 cup, grated)
  • Spaghetti (8 ounces)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Dried basil (1 teaspoon)
  • Dried oregano (1 teaspoon)
  • Tomato paste (2 tablespoons)
  • Canned crushed tomatoes (1 can (28 ounces))
  • Ground beef (1 pound)
  • Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
  • Onion (1, finely chopped)
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer the sauce for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
  7. Drain the spaghetti and toss with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
  8. Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce.
  9. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
