Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, salt, black pepper, and allspice. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth, heavy cream, and Dijon mustard. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the creamy sauce for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving one side intact. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on one side of each roll.
- Fill each roll with the Swedish meatballs and spoon some of the creamy gravy over the meatballs.
- Place the subs on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are toasted.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving hot.
Tips
- For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the meatball mixture.
- Serve with lingonberry sauce on the side for a traditional Swedish touch.
- Feel free to substitute the Swiss cheese with your favorite cheese for a different flavor.
