Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and freshly grated ginger to create the teriyaki sauce.
- Place the chicken in a large bowl and pour half of the teriyaki sauce over. Toss to ensure each piece is well coated. Let the chicken marinate for at least 10 minutes. Reserve the remaining sauce for later.
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until well browned and cooked through. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
- While the chicken is cooking, combine the cornstarch and water in a separate bowl, whisking until smooth. Add this mixture to the reserved teriyaki sauce and whisk again until well combined.
- Pour the thickened teriyaki sauce over the cooked chicken in the skillet. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish your Classic Teriyaki Chicken with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and sliced green onions. For a complete meal, serve with steamed rice and vegetables.
Tips
- The chicken can be marinated for up to 24 hours in the fridge for more flavor.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the teriyaki sauce.
