Servings: 4

Ingredients

Ground beef
1 pound (preferably 80% lean)
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup
Brown sugar
2 tablespoons
Tomato
1 large, sliced
Lettuce
4 leaves (such as romaine or iceberg)
Hamburger buns
4

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, and cook until the mixture reduces by half and becomes syrupy, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix until just combined. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers for about 5 minutes on one side, then flip and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, brush the burgers generously with the balsamic glaze to impart flavor and a beautiful shine.
  5. Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. Serve on hamburger buns, topped with fresh lettuce and tomato slices. Drizzle with additional balsamic glaze if desired.
