This vibrant Bell Pepper and Steak Stir Fry is a culinary delight that brings together tender slices of flank steak and a rainbow of bell peppers, all enveloped in a savory sauce. The quick stir-frying technique locks in the flavors and maintains the crispness of the vegetables, making it a perfect dish for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. Stir fry has its roots in Chinese cuisine, where the technique was developed for quick cooking over high heat, preserving the freshness of ingredients while allowing them to absorb rich flavors.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

Flank steak
1 pound, thinly sliced against the grain
Bell peppers
2 cups, sliced (red, yellow, and green for color)
Onion
1 medium, sliced
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Green onions
2, sliced for garnish
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Soy sauce
1/4 cup
Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Ginger
1 tablespoon, minced
Cornstarch
1 tablespoon
Beef broth
1/2 cup
Salt
to taste
Pepper
to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced ginger, cornstarch, and beef broth until smooth. This will be your stir fry sauce. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat until shimmering.
  3. Add the sliced flank steak to the skillet, spreading it out in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until browned, stirring occasionally. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced bell peppers, onion, and minced garlic. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are crisp-tender and vibrant in color.
  5. Return the cooked steak to the skillet. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the steak and vegetables.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce has thickened and the steak is cooked to your desired doneness.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve the stir fry over steamed rice or noodles, and garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh touch.
