Chicken Fried Steak

Chicken Fried Steak

A classic Southern dish, chicken fried steak is a breaded and fried cube steak served with a creamy gravy.

Ingredients

  • Heavy cream (1/2 cup)
  • Beef broth (2 cups)
  • Butter (2 tablespoons)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Milk (1/4 cup)
  • Eggs (2)
  • All (purpose flour - 2 cups)
  • Cube steak (4 pieces)

Instructions

  1. Season the cube steaks with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour.
  2. Beat the eggs with the milk in a separate bowl.
  3. Dip the floured steaks into the egg mixture, then back into the flour.
  4. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the steaks until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side.
  5. Remove the steaks to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  6. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Stir in 2 tablespoons of the leftover flour and cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy is thickened.
  8. Serve the steaks with the gravy.
