Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, beaten egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 2-3 minutes, until the dough is smooth.
- Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch and use a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters to cut out doughnuts and holes.
- In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop the doughnuts into the hot oil in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth to create the glaze.
- Dip each doughnut into the glaze, coating both sides, and place them on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set.
- Serve the doughnuts while they're warm, and enjoy the delightful sweet aroma!
Tips
- For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to the dough.
- You can experiment with different glazes or toppings, such as chocolate glaze, sprinkles, or chopped nuts.
- To avoid splattering, gently lower the doughnuts into the hot oil using a slotted spoon.
