Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. This helps the dough firm up and makes it easier to handle.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one large for the outer ring and one small for the hole) to cut out the doughnuts and doughnut holes.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- Carefully fry the doughnuts and doughnut holes in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and water until smooth to create the glaze.
- Dip the warm doughnuts in the glaze and then place them on a wire rack for the glaze to set.
- Serve warm and enjoy the delightful taste of homemade goodness!
Tips
- For a fun twist, try adding spices like nutmeg or cinnamon to the dough for extra flavor.
- Experiment with different glazes or toppings, such as chocolate glaze, sprinkles, or a dusting of cinnamon sugar.
