Kanelboller (Norwegian Cinnamon Buns)

Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 4 cups
- Active dry yeast
- 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Brown sugar
- 1/2 cup, packed
- Cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup, melted
- Milk
- 1 cup, warm (110°f or 43°c)
- Egg
- 1, beaten
- Powdered sugar
- 1 cup (for glaze)
- Water
- 2-3 tablespoons (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the melted butter, warm milk, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the dough.
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long side, then cut it into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the cinnamon buns on a greased baking sheet, leaving some space between each bun.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar with water until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more water or powdered sugar as needed.
- Once the buns are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon buns.
