Serves 12

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
4 cups
Active dry yeast
2 1/4 teaspoons
Granulated sugar
1/4 cup
Brown sugar
1/2 cup, packed
Cinnamon
2 tablespoons
Salt
1 teaspoon
Unsalted butter
1/2 cup, melted
Milk
1 cup, warm (110°f or 43°c)
Egg
1, beaten
Powdered sugar
1 cup (for glaze)
Water
2-3 tablespoons (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the melted butter, warm milk, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the dough.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly from the long side, then cut it into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the cinnamon buns on a greased baking sheet, leaving some space between each bun.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar with water until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more water or powdered sugar as needed.
  12. Once the buns are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon buns.
  14. Serve and enjoy your delicious Kanelboller!
