Originating from ancient Persia, kofta has traveled through time, evolving into various forms across the Middle East and beyond. - Ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon
- Ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon
- Ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil
- 2 tablespoons
- Yogurt
- 1 cup (for sauce)
- Cucumber
- 1/2, finely grated (for sauce)
- Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon (for sauce)
- Garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (for sauce)
- Salt
- to taste (for sauce)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, black pepper, and ground paprika. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Shape the mixture into small oval-shaped patties, about 2 inches long, ensuring they are compact to hold together while cooking.
- Heat the olive oil in a grill pan or skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the kofta patties in the pan.
- Cook the kofta patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and have a nice golden-brown crust.
- While the kofta is cooking, prepare the yogurt sauce by combining yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.
- Once cooked, serve the kofta hot with a side of rice or warm flatbread, drizzled with the yogurt sauce.
Tips
- For added flavor, let the kofta mixture rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before shaping the patties.
- Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground lamb or turkey for a different flavor profile.
- Serve with a side of tabbouleh salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
